In The Beginning

In The Beginning

People often ask me how I got started making candles and wax melts.  Well, first they ask me if I make all my candles and wax melts and I always say, "yes I hand-pour each and every one of them", then they ask me what got me started making candles.

It all began with a DIY candle making kit from my husband on Mother's Day in 2022.

I'm a stay-at-home mom of 4 girls and haven't had a job since my youngest was 10 months old.  Reading has always been a passion of mine, favorite author P.C. Cast, and still is a favorite past time, but I needed something that I could physically do that was in this reality that was just mine.  So I had talked about maybe getting into candle making, but I kept putting it off and putting it off until I finally had myself convinced that it was a stupid idea to begin with.

Until Mother's Day rolled around and I opened my gift from my wonderful husband.

In the kit it came with essential oils, wax dyes, soy wax pellets, 8oz. fogged clear glass containers with wooden lids, a spoon, an aluminum pitcher and directions.  I had enough materials to make 6 candles and I went through those in 3 days, I was hooked.  I had so many ideas for different scents, different types, different shapes, colors, different genre' of candles that I ordered more soy wax, more candle jars, more fragrances, a 11qt. wax melter and went to town creating.

I had made so many over the next couple months my husband told me I needed to start selling or start burning, we were running out of room to store all the candles lol.  I had found a new passion and talent that I never knew I possessed.  So the rest is just getting the business side up and running.  Going to festivals, markets, vendor fairs and creating a website and social media profile, getting my name and candles out there.

That Mother's Day gift is definitely one that keeps on giving, without my husband buying that DIY candle kit The Wikid Wik would have never been born.
